How it works

Credit cards aggregate all your transactions over a 30-day billing cycle (ending on your statement date). Then, they give you an additional grace period (usually 15-25 days) to pay that accumulated bill.

  • If you buy something the day after your statement is generated, it goes into the next billing cycle. You get standard 30 days + grace period (~50 days total)!
  • If you buy something on the day of your statement generation, it gets billed immediately. You only get the grace period (~20 days total) to pay it off.

Important: If you carry forward a balance from the previous month (i.e., you didn't pay the full bill), you lose the interest-free period on all new purchases! Interest is charged from day 1.
