What is Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)?
PMJDY is a National Mission for Financial Inclusion to ensure access to financial services, namely, basic savings & deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, and pension in an affordable manner.
Is there any minimum balance required?
No, there is no minimum balance requirement for accounts opened under PMJDY. It is a Zero Balance account.
What is an Overdraft (OD) facility?
An overdraft facility allows the account holder to withdraw money even if the account balance is zero. PMJDY provides an OD facility up to ₹10,000 for eligible account holders.
Who is eligible for the OD facility?
To be eligible, the account must be satisfactorily operated for at least 6 months, and the account holder's age must be between 18 and 65 years. Usually, only one person per household (preferably a lady of the household) is eligible.
What insurance do I get?
Account holders are issued a free RuPay Debit card, which comes with an inbuilt accidental insurance cover of ₹2 Lakhs (₹1 Lakh for accounts opened before Aug 28, 2018). The card must be used at least once in 90 days for the insurance to remain active.
