The healthy (Normal) BMI range for adult women is 18.5 to 24.9 — identical to men. Below 18.5 is Underweight, 25–29.9 is Overweight, and 30+ is Obese. South-Asian guidance often treats 23+ as an early warning line, so consider yourself borderline sooner if your doctor advises it.
Approximate ACE bands for women: essential fat 10–13%, athletic 14–20%, fit 21–24%, average 25–31%, and obese 32% and above. Women healthily carry about 10 percentage points more fat than men because of reproductive physiology.
No — pregnancy weight gain is expected and healthy, so standard BMI categories do not apply. Doctors track gestational weight-gain ranges based on pre-pregnancy BMI instead. Use the due-date calculator to follow your pregnancy week by week.
Belly (visceral) fat drives diabetes and heart risk even at normal BMI. Keep your waist under ~80 cm (Indian guidance for women) — a tape measure around the navel is the cheapest health test you own.
This page uses the Robinson formula for women: 49 kg plus 1.7 kg for every inch above 5 feet (about 57.4 kg at 165 cm). It is a reference figure, not a mandate — frame size, muscle and age shift it several kilos either way.
They change the context, not the formula. PCOS and perimenopause make weight gain and insulin resistance more likely, so women in these phases benefit from acting earlier within the BMI scale — and from strength training, which protects metabolism.
It uses the Deurenberg equation (BMI plus age) — a screening estimate within a few percentage points for typical builds. It cannot see muscle versus fat distribution, so gym-trained women should confirm with calipers, a bioimpedance scale or a DEXA scan.
This calculator shows the kilograms to your nearest healthy boundary (18.5 if under, 24.9 if over). Target gradual change of roughly 0.5 kg per week through protein-adequate eating, strength training twice weekly, walking, and consistent sleep.
